The BBC has launched a prototype of its programme catalogue which can be browsed online.
This catalogue allows you to look through the BBC’s back catalogue and view details of 949,181 BBC radio & TV programmes dating back 75 years.
The catalogue is updated every day as new records are added and updated. The programmes themselves can't be downloaded but the catalogue allows you to find out information like whether Songs of Praise has ever been filmed in your town!

Tom Loosemore, the Project Director of the BBC’s internet redesign project BBC 2.0 has written about using this catalogue and why he considers it to be so important to make this data available to the public; “Here were data about the million people who appeared in or produced and directed those shows. Here were echoes of broadcast media being invented. We were looking at a hidden repository of UK history & culture, stretching back to 1937.”
