The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council joins the Creative Archive Licence Group

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), has become a member of the Creative Archive Licence Group, joining the BBC, the bfi, Channel 4, the Open University and Teachers TV.

Membership of the group will allow museums, libraries and archives to engage in the debate about enabling wider access to moving image materials in their collections.

Chris Batt, Chief Executive of MLA, said: “Copyright is a confusing area for many, joining the Creative Archive will help museums, libraries and archives demonstrate that the unique historical moving image archives can be used to support learning and personal development, that is at the heart of our agenda."

MLA are not themselves releasing content under the terms of the Creative Archive Licence, rather they will be seeking to help smaller audio video archives across England to release their content. In fact through the MLA it could be said that every regional museum, library and archive in the country is now a member of the Creative Archive Licence Group.
