Community Channel, the digital TV station owned by the Media Trust, has become a member of the Creative Archive Licence Group, joining the BBC, the bfi, Channel 4, the Open University and Teachers TV.
Membership of the group will allow Community Channel to help voluntary and charity organizations, and community filmmakers, tell their own stories by having access to Community Channel footage and stills.
Nick Ware, Controller, Community Channel, said: “Joining the Creative Archive is another fantastic opportunity for Community Channel to help the voluntary and charity sectors, as well as up and coming filmmakers out there in the community. It also helps maintain our excellent relationship we already have with our broadcast partners.”
The Creative Archive Licence Group was formed on April 13th 2005 by the BBC, the bfi, Channel 4 and the Open University to promote the use of a single, shared user licence scheme for the downloading, and personal use, of archive moving images, audio and stills. The Group's legal framework is known as the Creative Archive Licence, and by sharing the same scheme it hopes to make it easier for users to understand and to respect the framework. Teachers’TV joined the group in August so now with Community Channel on board, the group’s membership stands at six.
Paul Gerhardt, Project Director of the Creative Archive Licence Group, says, “We’re delighted to welcome Community Channel. Their close links with the voluntary sector wil help inform our choice of content for the Creative Archive.”
Membership is available to major national collections, broadcasters, and commercial organisations who wish to share content with the public on the same terms, are committed to the process of improving the service to the user and can meet monthly. For more information contact the CALG.
