BBC offers Beethoven downloads

As part of the BBC's Beethoven Experience this June the composer's symphonies will be available for download the day after they are broadcast on Radio 3.

Downloads of all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies, performed live by the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester and conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, will be available as mp3 files for one week after broadcast.

This project aims to gauge audiences' appetite for music downloads and their preferred content, and will inform the development of the BBC strategy for audio downloads and on demand content.

"We hope this experiment brings more people into contact with Beethoven's work and encourages them to explore it further themselves," said Radio 3's Controller Roger Wright.

The Beethoven season is the BBC's largest ever focus on a single creative artist, with output across BBC Radio, Television and Interactive, and you can find full details of broadcast dates on the Radio 3 website.
